The story of SCNT begins with the comforting presence of a father's perfume collection that ignited a lifelong passion for fragrances. For founder Oyin Kekereekun this passion manifested itself into a business idea back in 2020. Oyin was in between jobs at the time and had begun to think about starting a business in order to become her own boss. This idea eventually came to fruition in 2023 when Oyin learned of a grant through the provincial government of Ontario that was offering to help young entrepreneurs in the country. The Summer Company grant would provide not only up to $3000 to launch the company; but also business training, and mentorship sessions with a professional to really provide the necessary tools for success. With a background in accounting Oyin benefited greatly from this business training, as it provided her with a step-by-step way to create a business plan while simultaneously learning how to operate different aspects of the business independently. This grant ultimately gave her the tools she would need to successfully get this business idea off the ground and set her plan into motion.

Today, SCNT can be found at various pop-up markets across the city, as well as in one of Toronto’s most vibrant neighborhoods: Kensington Market. For customers outside of the city, SCNT provides worldwide shipping from its online store. Founder Oyin has credited her success in sales to the wonderful community she has created through being present and hands-on during these markets. She believes that the best way to grow your business is by actually getting your hands dirty and doing the work. Oyin is an incredible woman who turned her dreams into reality by working hard and believing in herself. Throughout any setback that has come her way, she pushed through and trusted her ideas. As she looks to the future, Oyin is looking forward to setting up a more permanent location to sell her products by winter 2024. As the holiday season approaches Oyin is also looking to create gift sets that would fit the season. She would also like to add more people to her team to help lessen her workload so she can focus on expanding the business. Her ultimate goal for SCNT would be to have it become a permanent brand that can be found at the popular retailer Sephora.
